For over 30 years the Greece Police Department has served the youth of
Greece by offering wholesome sports and recreational opportunities.
The positive interaction of police officers and young people has been the
hallmark of our program.
The Greece Police Athletic League was founded many years ago with two
simple goals in mind. To help reduce juvenile crime by providing
athletic activities for the youth of Greece and to provide a forum where
kids and cops can interact in a positive manor. Today we continue to
achieve these goals with several hundred children participating in our
program and numerous police and civilian volunteers working with those
kids. The success of our program is proof of our sincere belief in
our motto: "filling playgrounds, not prisons."
The athletic leagues that we currently provide to the youth are free of
charge to the participant. The police athletic league beliefs that
juvenile crime can be maintained at a low rate by doing three things:
1) Provide a safe place where children can take part in positive
activities that eliminate idle time.
2) Provide an environment where children can interact with police
officers in a positive manor and allow police officers to serve as positive
role models for kids.
3) Provide an environment where character, good sportsmanship, and
positive attitude are stressed to children with the hope that they will
accept these values and carry them throughout their lives.
All PAL activities are free. A strong emphasis is placed on
character, sportsmanship, and positive attitude. All participants, coaches,
parents, volunteers, and spectators are held to strict behavioral
standards.
